How To Distinguish Nylon-polyester Corduroy From Pure Cotton Corduroy?
Traditional corduroy is mainly made of cotton yarn, but with the rise and development of differentiated fibers, polyester-nylon superfine composite yarn has been widely used in corduroy fabrics, which has improved some of the properties of corduroy and given it a new look. Nylon-polyester corduroy and pure cotton corduroy each have their own characteristics, and they are evenly matched in terms of application and sales! But what is the difference between the two? How to quickly distinguish a piece of corduroy fabric sample from nylon-polyester corduroy? Or cotton corduroy? Here is a brief introduction on how to distinguish:
First: Using the different ingredients, pure cotton corduroy is 100% cotton, while nylon-polyester corduroy is woven from polyester-nylon composite yarn, which is generally 90% polyester and 10% nylon. In this way, we can use the combustion method to identify whether the fabric fiber is cotton or polyester and distinguish it!
Combustion identification is a simple identification method. Since each fiber has a different chemical composition, it will show different phenomena when burning. Based on this, the fiber raw materials in the fabric can be identified! Take out a few yarns from the fabric, approach the flame, and carefully observe the changes that occur when the fiber burns.
1. Whether there is shrinkage and melting when approaching the flame
2. The color of the flame during burning, the state of the fiber
3. Whether the fiber continues to burn when leaving the flame and the smell emitted by the fiber
4. The color, shape and hardness of the ashes after burning!
Cotton yarn will not melt or shrink when close to the flame!
Cotton yarn burns very transparently, with a smell of burning paper, and there is almost no ashes. The ashes are also very light and thin, and they will disappear with a twist!
When polyester touches the flame, it melts immediately, shrinks, and emits black smoke!
After polyester burns, the ashes form black balls!
The above is through splitting the yarn and burning. It can be seen that the difference between polyester corduroy and cotton corduroy when burning is still very large, and it is easy to distinguish them!
Secondly, based on the difference in ingredients, the appearance, color, feel and other aspects of the corduroy of nylon-polyester corduroy and pure cotton corduroy are also quite different. We can distinguish the two by these differences!
1. The color of nylon-polyester corduroy is brighter and brighter, while the pure cotton corduroy is dryer and matte
2. The corduroy of nylon-polyester corduroy is fuller, rounder, fluffy and fuller! The velvet surface of pure cotton corduroy is relatively flat
3. The nylon-polyester corduroy uses polyester-nylon composite yarn, and the polyester-nylon composite yarn is a superfine fiber with a large number of fibers and a small fineness. The bending stiffness is reduced, which improves the feel of the corduroy. The feel of nylon-polyester corduroy is much softer than that of pure cotton corduroy. Pure cotton corduroy is relatively hard even without washing! So you can roughly judge by the feel!
4. Nylon-polyester corduroy has severe frost on the surface (partial whitening, because the polyester and nylon reflect light), while pure cotton corduroy has almost no frost effect
5. The polyester-nylon composite yarn used in nylon-polyester corduroy is filament, while cotton fiber is short fiber. The tear strength of polyester is much greater than that of cotton fiber, so the yarn that is easily torn apart should be cotton!
6. Through the back, the back feels rougher, which is nylon-polyester, and pure cotton is relatively flat and smoother in contact with the skin. This is because polyester is hydrophobic and cotton is hydrophilic. Cotton fiber has good hygroscopicity, so it is more skin-friendly in contact with the skin!
As for how to distinguish nylon-polyester corduroy from pure cotton corduroy, the fiber burning identification method will be simpler, faster and more accurate. As for the difference between the two, we can combine several characteristics to judge and prove!
